HDPE pipe fusion services
Electro Fusion welding
Butt fusion welding
What is electrofusion welding?
Electrofusion welding is used to join MDPE, HDPE and other plastic pipes together for water, gas and sewage where valves, elbows, and tees must be added, or access is difficult. Prefabricated fittings are used, incorporating an electrical heating coil which melts the plastic of both the fitting and the pipe, causing them to fuse together.
Electrofusion creates secure, reliable, long-lasting joins with minimum installation time. The resulting joint is as strong as the original pipe and can withstand all the loads applied during routine installation and use.
Electrofusion is particularly suited to installations where access is difficult, such as in trenches or around other pipes. When welding small diameter pipes, flow capacity is not affected. With electrofusion, the two pipes being joined do not need the same wall thickness and multiple layer pipes can also be joined.
Electrofusion is considered the most cost-effective and safe method for joining polyethylene pipes.
The effectiveness of electrofusion depends on attention to preparation and we ensure a safe and sound connection is
What is butt welding?
Butt fusion welding involves heating two planed surfaces against a heated surface and the two pieces are then pressed together and allowed to cool under pressure, forming the joint.
Butt welding is a welding technique used to connect pipes and fittings in dimensions of 160mm and greater. PE pipes are the most widely used in pipeline systems for water, sewer, stormwater and power ducts instead of PVC pipes. PE pipes are lightweight, have excellent flexibility and high stability against strokes, are non-corrosive, maintain good chemical resistance and have low maintenance and repair costs.
This process is ideal for prefabrication and long pipe runs.
